Why there is no single price
Mashore Autobody and any honest shop will tell you the same thing: a bumper repair is not one job. A light scuff and a cracked cover with a broken mount are very different repairs, so the price is too. The only way to know is to have someone look at it.
What moves the price
- Repair or replace. A scuff or small crack can often be repaired. A cover broken into pieces is usually replaced.
- What is behind it. A bent support or cracked mount adds work.
- Sensors and cameras. Many newer cars keep parking sensors or radar in the bumper, and they have to be put back and checked.
- Paint. Some colors are harder to match than others, and the new paint is blended into the next panel so it looks even.
- The kind of part. Original, aftermarket or used parts can cost different amounts.
Should you go through insurance?
It depends on your policy and your deductible. If the repair costs less than your deductible, it can be cheaper to pay for it yourself and leave your insurer out of it. A written estimate lets you decide.
What to ask for
Ask for a written estimate that lists each part by kind, the paint work, the labor, and anything done to the sensors.
