Often, a crack can be repaired
Most modern bumper covers are plastic, and plastic can often be repaired: the crack is closed, the surface is built back up and sanded smooth, and the cover is repainted. Mashore Autobody will tell you honestly if yours can be saved.
When replacing is the better choice
- The cover is broken into pieces or has missing sections.
- The mounting tabs are broken, so it will not sit right.
- The cover is badly warped.
- A repair would cost more than a new cover.
What is behind the cover
The cover is the part you see. Behind it are supports, absorbers and often sensors. A crack in the cover can mean those are damaged too, so they should be checked either way.
