The sections below are general information about how this kind of repair works. Your vehicle may need something different, and we will tell you after we look at it.
How a quality paint job is built
Paint on a car is a stack of layers, and most of the quality is in the prep you never see:
- Prep. The surface is cleaned, sanded and repaired so the new paint has something sound to stick to.
- Primer. It fills small scratches and helps the color bond.
- Color. Applied in thin coats until the color is even.
- Clear coat. The glossy top layer that protects the color from sun and wear.
- Cure and finish. The paint hardens, then is polished so it blends with the rest of the car.
Why color matching is the hard part
Paint fades slowly with sun and age, so a car's color is not quite what the factory formula says it should be. A good painter checks the real color and blends the new paint into the panels next to the repair, so the eye does not find an edge. Pearl and multi-layer colors are harder to match than plain ones.
One panel or the whole car
Painting one panel is usually the right choice after a repair. A full repaint makes sense when the paint across the car has failed, faded unevenly, or when you want a color change. We will tell you which we think you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you match the color of my car?
Matching means more than picking the right paint code. Paint fades, so a good shop blends the new color into the panels next to it. Ask any shop how it matches, and ask to see it in daylight.
How long does a paint job last?
It depends on the prep work and the materials, and on how the car is kept afterward. Ask what the shop's paint warranty covers and for how long.
Can you paint just one panel?
Often, yes, by blending into the next panel so the color looks even. Some jobs look better if more of the car is done. We will tell you honestly which it is.
Why is my paint peeling or fading?
Clear coat can break down from sun, age or a poor earlier paint job, and once it starts it spreads. The fix is to take the failing coat off and refinish the panel, not to paint over it.
How long will my car be in the shop for paint?
It depends on how many panels, the prep needed and how long the paint has to cure.
