Why it happens
An estimate is made from what a shop can see. Once bumpers and panels come off, a bent bracket, a cracked mount or a damaged sensor can show up behind them. That is normal, and it is not a sign something went wrong.
What a supplement is
When more damage is found, the shop writes up the added work and the cost. If an insurance claim is paying for the repair, the insurance company reviews it and agrees to it, which is often called a supplement.

Ask before the repair starts:
- How will you tell me if you find more damage?
- Do you take photos of it?
- Will you get my OK before added work?
- Who deals with my insurance company?
